"Part of Records of District Courts of the United States, Record Group (RG) 21, these records are located among the holdings of the Archives Branch of the Chicago Federal Archives and Records Center ... The records ... consist of case files and a bound volume written in the style of a journal .... The documents in each case file are arranged chronologically. Those that have no date have been placed at the end of the file unless their content clearly indicates proper placement among the other papers. The cases from 1816 through 1823 were not assigned numbers by the court, but they are in chronological sequence. The court began a numbering system in 1824, after which date the cases are numerically arranged from 2 to 146. Case number 1 has not been found. These introductory remarks were written by W. Kenneth Shanks, who also prepared the records for filming"--Introd. on roll 2. |
